MILLEY SIrEN

FURIOUSLY gyrating her hips in a pair
of tiny denim shorts, hair tumbling
down her back, she looks like a sexy
R&B singer filming a steamy pop
promo.
Yet this is no set, this is for real - and
the flirty girl grinding her crotch
against her dance partner is teen star
MILEY CYRUS, who was just 16 when
the grainy home video was shot last
year.
Check out the video by clicking on the
link to the right...
Even more worryingly, the man with
his hands on her curvy hips is 28 years
her senior.
The odd couple can first be seen
dancing together at a club in Georgia
to the BLACK EYED PEAS song Boom
Boom Pow before he leaps on a sofa
and Miley continues pressing herself
against him while he pretends to
spank her.
He may be openly gay, but the fact that
45-year-old ADAM SHANKMAN is a
successful film director asks serious
questions about the way the
Hollywood game is played these days.
And in a world which has seen teen
stars BRITNEY SPEARS and LINDSAY
LOHAN live out a series of very public
relationships including Brit's drunken
Las Vegas wedding and LiLo's lesbian
romance, it again raises the issue of
promiscuity and early sexualisation in
the celebrity world.
When Miley first hit the scene as cutesy
singer/actress Hannah Montana in a
Disney TV and movie series she was
12, with a penchant for two-tone hair
and brightly-coloured leather jackets.
The Tennessee-born daughter of
country singer BILLY RAY CYRUS, who
had a 1992 hit with the cheesey but
unbearably catchy Achy Breaky Heart,
cheerleader Miley was the perfect
poster girl for squeaky-clean Disney -
professional, Christian and chatty, with
a permanent megawatt grin.
In fact her nickname Miley - her real
name is Destiny Hope - is a shortened
form of "smiley" as she was such a
sunny child.
The films were a huge success and on
the back of them she has had four
No1 albums and sold 15million
records. Her franchise is estimated to
be worth as much as a billion dollars.
But, as so often happens with former
child stars, Miley has found herself
getting into hot water as she tries to
make the difficult transition from little
girl to woman in front of an adoring
public.
She was first blasted by family values
groups in the States two years ago
aged just 15 when she did a raunchy
shoot for Vanity Fair magazine by top
photographer ANNIE LEIBOVITZ in
which she posed naked with just a
bedsheet covering her chest.
She later apologised, saying she was
"embarrassed" by the photos.
Last August she made headlines again
for briefly straddling what looked like
a stripper's pole on an ice-cream cart
while performing her single Party In
The USA at the 2009 Teen Choice
Awards.
Now Miley has found herself attacked
again after the video of her giving a
"lap dance" to Shankman - or more
accurately, bumping and grinding
with him - was leaked to celeb
website TMZ.
Filmed seven months ago at the wrap
party for her latest film, The Last
Song, the 60-second clip has gone
global and is sure to rock her
relations with Disney, who are
fiercely protective of their family-
friendly image.
The studio is due to screen the final
series of Hannah Montana on US TV in
July and Disney bosses would no doubt
have preferred Miley to hold on to her
innocent image until it had finished
airing.
But it seems that at 17 she is desperate
to shed her childish past and grow up
fast.
Just days ago she released a racy pop
video for her new song Can't Be Tamed
in which she pole-dances in a sexy
black S&M bodice and brushes lips with
her female dancers.
Wearing wings and thigh-high black
boots, she dances inside a giant
birdcage as she sings such lyrics as "I
go through guys like money flyin' out
their hands, they try to change me but
they realise they can't".
Yesterday America erupted in fury at
the home video, with one source
telling website RadarOnline: "The
worst part is that there were little
kids at the party and the dancing
between Miley and Shankman was so
dirty that some of the parents
actually left the party and took their
kids home."
CNN's Rick Sanchez called Miley's
behaviour "troubling", adding:
"Whether she likes it or not, she is
Hannah Montana and maybe Hannah
Montana should not be bumping and
grinding with a 44-year-old man on
camera."
But yesterday Miley got unlikely
support from ASHTON KUTCHER, who
wrote on his Twitter page that the
attacks were "completely
unwarranted", adding: "She's 17.
Judgment is unbecoming."
Shankman, a judge on US reality show
So You Think You Can Dance, produced
Miley's new film as well as this year's
Oscars show.
Angel
Last year he defended himself after
posting cosy photos on his Twitter
account of Miley posing provocatively
with legs wrapped around her make-
up chair.
He wrote: "Miley is a sweet angel
who works tirelessly and endlessly
and is allowed to have fun in the
make-up room.
"Lighten up or no more behind-the-
scenes pics. She's my little angel
sister."
Others have said Miley's
"controversies" are simply clever
publicity stunts, timed to promote her
latest single, album or movie and that
she is a hard-working, family-
orientated girl at heart.
Even her father told TMZ he was OK
with the crotch-grinding video, adding
that it is "what people her age do".
But given that last Halloween his other
daughter Noah dressed up in knee-
high boots and a skimpy, skin-tight
frock aged just nine, not everybody
believes his judgement is to be
trusted.
And given the fate of her two Disney
predecessors, Lohan and Spears, critics
can't help wondering if somebody
ought to rein Miley in - before it's too
late.

Stars who jolt Walt
MILEY CYRUS is not the first young
Disney star to court controversy by
doing or saying the wrong thing.
Here we catalogue past instances of
junior talents who went on to cause
embarrassment to the family-friendly
studio founded by Walt Disney.
Check out a slideshow of the stars
below...
Britney Spears
BRITNEY shot to fame at 11 as a Disney
star. By the time she was 17 her first
single, Baby One More Time, had her
dressed as a sexy schoolgirl.
At 22 she wed JASON ALEXANDER. The
marriage was annulled after 55 hours.
Eight months later she wed KEVIN
FEDERLINE, father of her two kids. Their
separation after two years led to
Britney's meltdown in which she
shaved her head.
Lindsay Lohan
THE 23-year-old Herbie and Freaky
Friday star got rave reviews for her
early films but while making 2006
movie Georgia Rule, studio boss James
G Robinson gave her a public telling
off, blaming her "all-night heavy
partying" for constant "late arrivals and
absences from set".
There followed two drink-drive arrests,
a conviction for possessing cocaine and
tearful, drunken fights with her lesbian
lover SAMANTHA RONSON.
Vanessa Hudgens
HIGH School Musical was a huge hit in
2006 and Disney were desperate to
keep its stars' reputations intact.
So VANESSA, 21, and co-star ZAC EFRON,
22, hid their relationship for months
before finally admitting to being a
couple.
But in 2007 shots of her naked and in
lingerie appeared on the internet.
Two two years later more snaps
showed her topless.
She was also pictured with Zac
apparently leaving a sex shop.
Anne Hathaway
THE 27-year-old shot to fame as the
porcelain-skinned, doe-eyed star of
2001 movie The Princess Diaries.
And despite remaining squeaky clean
herself, she fell victim to the curse
when her ex-boyfriend RAFFAELLO
FOLLIERI was jailed in 2008 for four-
and-a-half years for money laundering
and fraud.
Luckily for the Alice In Wonderland
actress, they split three months before
he was convicted.
