Essence step out again

Kennis Music singer, Essence, will this Sunday, launch her new
album at the Oriental Hotels in Lekki, Lagos.
The talented but under-celebrated singer has been
busy rebuilding and remoulding herself and her
music, and with the recent release of fresh
materials, she appears now set to have her fair
share of shine time.
Although we're bothered about the increasing use
of vocoders and other vocal treatment, Essence's
new direction is interesting and refreshing. The
once-upon-a-time shy and reserved singer is now
splashing some sex in our faces; using her plus-size
to advantage, and getting more confident - and
naughty- with her lyrics.
In an environment where the time is pop-O-clock;
where sex sells more than everything else, it's not
surprising that Miss Essence is re-routing her steps
and joining the class of talented acts who are
waving critics goodbye and hugging the fans. Who
wants critical acclaim when it's Mo' hits that brings
in the pay check?
Like her other sisters, Kefee and KSB, Essence has
turned to producer, K-Solo, for the biggest cuts on
her new album. So when you listen, it'll be a totally
brand new sound. Not what you heard on Coming
out or African prince or Like dat.
''It's a whole new experience for me'' she tells e-
Punch, in the midst of preparations for her launch.
