FITS in search of future instrumentalist/vocalist

A brand new and totally different kind of TV reality
contest, Fortune Instrumentalists Talent Show (FITS),
which is designed to allow established instrumentalists
assisted by professionals in the music industry train and
mentor budding talents to enable them harness their
potentials in mastering the performance, production and
marketing of their output in a 30-day intense training
camp, has berthed.
According to the prime movers and initiators, the idea of
FITS, came out of their review of the Nigerian
entertainment scene and the reality shows thereof,
which seems to always emphasize singing and dancing
abilities. “The advent of computer aided music is limiting
the need for professional development of instruments
playing abilities. FITS is conceived to bridge the gap by
promoting the role of instruments playing ability in
entertainment.
At FITS, individuals showcase their abilities in a national project
where youths from all regions are given a life time opportunity to
live out their dreams. All musical instruments, used and played in
any part of Nigeria are considered for qualification and eventual
selection of any potential participant. Vocalists are allowed to
participate to compliment the efforts of the instrumentalists. ”
Continuing, the organizers further explained that every season, a
female and a male musician with demonstrated instrument
playing abilities will be selected to act as the Queen and King of a
Groove that will be created in a natural setting for camping the
selected participants.
Shedding more light on the selection process, the organizers
disclosed that they are eight regional selection centres across the
country, to allow ease of access to the contestants. With a token
entry fee that is payable into any Afribank , a participant is given a
pass code to login into FITS registration portal to complete the
entry form. “Entry is open to anyone that can play an instrument
or with good vocals.” Selection centres for the forthcoming reality
show are: Lagos, Ibadan, Benin, Enugu, Abuja, Kaduna, Port-
Harcourt and Calabar.
Three female and three male contestants will be selected from
each venue to make up the 48 contestants that will head for FITS
Groove located in a remote natural setting “The camp is a typical
African village setting where there is a King and Queen whose
business in the camp is to mentor the 48 finalists that will
eventually make it. The training diet will enable them improve on
their skills as they are further tested and reduced in numbers to 36
contestants, after one week. ”
While at the camp, individual contestants will be engaged in
competition with a view to selecting the best hands on each type
of instrument. The Judges will be drawn from the best in the
music industry in Nigeria.
N6m and a record deal worth N5m with a prominent record
label, will be taken home by the overall winner. While N3m and
N1.5m, will be shared between the first and second runners up,
respectively. There will be lots of consolation prizes for the other
