Genevieve, Mercy Johnson, Omotola to battle for NMA Best Actress award

The inaugural edition of the Nollywood Movies Awards is billed to hold on Saturday, June 2, 2012 and already organizers have unveiled this year’s nominations list.
The list which was revealed at a press parley held last Friday, at the Lagos Ikeja Hotel (Best Western) features 17 categories with over 50 nominees.

One category to look out for is the ‘Best Actress in a Leading Role’ which fields Nollywood heavyweights Genevieve Nnaji, Omoni Oboli, Mercy Johnson, Uche Jumbo and Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde. No Ghanaian actress made the list.
In the ‘Best Actor in a Leading Role’ Nigeria’s Joseph Benjamin was nominated twice for his roles in Mahood Ali-Balogun’s “Tango With Me”and “Kiss and Tell” by Emem Isong and Monalisa Chinda.
Other nominees include Ghanaian actor Van Vicker(Against the Law), Ramsey Nouah(Private Storm), Trybson Dudukoko(GhettoDreamz),and Charles Okafor who was nominated for his role in “Fake Prophet.”
Also nominated for the award of the Best Actress in a Supporting Role are Tina Mba, Rachel Oniga, Stella Damasus and Nse Ikpe-Etim.
Meanwhile, a nominees’ party is scheduled to hold today, at the Oriental Hotel in Lagos, with the main awards ceremony  coming up on Saturday, June 2 at the Civic Centre also in Lagos. The show will be hosted by Kate Henshaw and Julius Agwu
Organisers said the awards is designed to celebrate excellence, outstanding achievements and diversity in the industry.
