One of the films up for the prestigious fan-chosen award is the iconic Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2.
The film arrived in theaters in the summer of 2011 to record breaking box office numbers. Deathly Hallows, Part 2 capped the eight-part film series based on the beloved novels of J.K. Rowling.
In the film, Harry Potter, played by Daniel Racliffe, and his band of wizard confidants search for Voldemort’s remaining Horcruxes and try to put an end to his wicked ways.
Here’s five things you may not know about the production:
1) The film was nominated for three Oscars, including “Best Achievement in Art Direction,” “Best Achievement in Makeup,” and “Best Achievement in Visual Effects.” As a whole – with the five of the other eight films nominated for an Oscar - the franchise scored a total of twelve Academy Award opportunities, but never managed to win one.
2) Harry’s scar is obviously a staple to the franchise. And makeup artists got really good at applying it after a while. In the final film, the scar was applied 5,800 times, 2,000 of which were on Radcliffe himself. The others were drawn on stunt doubles and stand-ins.
3) Many actors wanted to cash in on an appearance in the series but were never given a chance. According to producer David Heyman, Eileen Atkins, Ian McKellen, Daniel Day-Lewis, Daniel Craig, James McAvoy, and Anne-Marie Duff all wanted parts but were not given them.
4) Over the course of all the movies, six different actors played the different manifestations of Voldemort, aka “He Who Must Not Be Named.” They include Richard Bremmer, Christian Coulson, Jim Westcott, and Ralph Fiennes, who played the villain in most films, including the last.
5) To date, the least successful Harry Potter film made $90 million more than the most successful Twilight film. Prisoner of Azkaban grossed $795 million where New Moon only made $709 million.
