The trial has come to a close and Jennifer Hudson’s brother-in-law William Balfour has been found guilty of 1st degree murder and faces life behind bars.
After two days of jury deliberation at Cook County Court in Chicago, the verdict was reached and Balfour, the estranged husband of Jennifer’s sister Julia, has been convicted of 1st degree murder in the deaths of Jennifer’s mom Darnell Donerson, her brother Jason Hudson, and nephew Julian King. The tragic slayings occurred in 2008.
His sentencing has yet to be announced, but he’ll most likely face life in prison.
The trial began on April 23, 2012 and Jennifer testified during the first day of the trial telling jurors, “I would tell Julia over and over again not to marry William. We did not like how he treated her and I didn’t like how he treated my nephew.”
After the defense called 83 witnesses to the stand, the trial finally ended today.
Balfour was estranged from Hudson’s sister Julia at the time of the triple murders. Balfour allegedly became enraged after he drove past the home where the Jennifer grew up and spied balloons he believed were from his wife’s new boyfriend.
He allegedly entered the home and used a .45 handgun to kill Hudson’s 57-year-old mother, Darnell, in the living room and her 29-year-old brother, Jason, with two shots in the head while he lay in bed.
Following the slayings, it is alleged that Balfour left the home in Jason’s SUV with Julia’s son, Julian King, and allegedly shot him in the head.
Tragically, Julian's body was found still in the SUV after an intense three-day search for the missing boy.
