Unfollowing an Ex
Just went through a split?
Resist the urge to unfollow him ASAP. Getting unfollowed feels harsh,
and most people keep tabs on how many followers they have so your move
won't go unnoticed. (And really, you don't want to let him think you
care enough to unfollow him right away.) Take a cue from Russell
Brand—wait at least a month after the dust settles before you drop your
ex online.
Following Check-Ins
If
you noticed your man checked in at a bar with five people last night,
give him a chance to clue you in before you bring it up. Even if you
make a joke about it, mentioning that you saw he was at your local
hangout will just make him feel like you're keeping tabs on him.
Crush-Gushing
Following
your celeb crush is one thing, tweeting, "I can't believe how hot
@ZacEfron is" is another. Really, think about how you'd feel if your man
gushed about Kate Upton...for the whole world to see.
Date Recaps
Unless
your account is locked and you never, ever plan to let your new man
follow you, don't go there. In fact, just don't go there, period—it'll
save you from dealing with potential awkwardness down the road.
Fight-Polling
You
already know fighting online is a no-no, but writing cagey post-fight
messages ("What would you do if your guy…") should be banned, too. It'll
just piss your man off, and leave you with a bunch of messages from
friends asking what's up.
Following Hookups
Hooking
up with a dude, but not sure where it's going? Don't follow or tweet
him—he'll take it as a sign you're trying to speed things up. If he's
not ready to take things to the next level, he'll freak.
Man-Hating Quotes
Sure,
writing a good man-hating tweet after a breakup feels so good in the
moment, but it only makes you come across as bitter (even if you're
not). Still dying to share one? Email it to a few select friends.
Cuddly Pics
Your
man may have zero issues posing for a cute shot at your place, but
seeing it online is a different story. And if his friends spot it, he will get made fun of. (If you think he might be okay with it, just ask him first.)
RTing His Friends
It's
one thing to follow your guy's friends—they'll feel flattered. Just
don't retweet their posts more than once in a while. No doubt your man
will love that you get along with his buddies, but at the end of the
day, he wants to be the most retweetable man in your life.
