No one wanted to think about it, but Whitney’s family did express some concern that the singer was on drugs before she died. The coroner said heart disease and cocaine were also factors in her death.
Officially, they said the cause of death was "drowning and effects of atherosclerosis heart disease and cocaine use."
While several pills were found on the scene, including Xanax, Ibuprofen and Midol, there was no evidence of cocaine in the hotel room. And officials have said the amount of those pills were “not in alarming amounts,” though they were found in her system, along with marijuana.
From the beginning, law enforcement have never suspected foul play in Whitney’s death. But despite the fact that they didn’t believe it to be a homicide, Whitney’s family has suggested that there may have been foul play.
The coroner's office said the manner of death was an “accident.” Earlier this month, Dionne Warwick, Whitney's cousin, said she suspected Whitney died of “a heart attack.”
Warwick said: “I think her heart just gave out.”
Houston battled drug addiction for a long time, but she was finally laid to rest on February 19 at the Fairview Cemetery in Westfield, New Jersey. The day before, Whitney had a star-studded but emotional memorial service.
