We own Yori Yori not Bishop-Bracket

The love of music brought the
duo of Bracket together at the
niversity of Nigeria, Nsuka.
Nwachukwu Ozioko aka Vast
and Alli Obumneme aka Smash
have been great friends and
their song Yori Yori keeps
making the waves but lately the
duo are embroiled in a
controversy about who owns
Yori Yori. Amobi Clems aka
Bishop claims he wrote the song
but the duo disagree and throw
more light on the issue and
insist the song belongs to
them.Excerpts:
What informed the name
Bracket?
The name came from K barrister
who was actually meant to
sponsor us but it didn’t work
out because then we had a very
big crew and we never knew
that it was just going to be the
two of us. We had about ten of
us in the group then so we just
called it South Bracket. K
barrister now said we should
remove the “south” and we
were left with Bracket.
How long have you been
together?
Well, we have been together
since 1999 although we had
many people in the group then
and we never knew what we
wanted. We wanted to make it
like G Unit, a foreign group. We
wanted to be like Tupac and co.
All we wanted then was to
imitate them but we found out
that this was not what
Nigerians wanted because if
you are African you have to
play African music.
How did you guys meet?
We met through school shows,
because we grew up in the
same neighborhood at Nsuka
very close to UNN. That was
how we met.
Is Yori Yori your song?
Yes it is our song
But Bishop has been saying
the song is his …
If it is his song, let him come and
sing it and let us listen to his
voice. You know we all have
freedom of expression. You can
say whatever you like. If he
says he owns the song he
should prove it. Although he
was once a member of the
group, but Yori Yori is not his
song. The only thing he had in
the song was the “rap” but
when he had problem with the
company it was removed.
Initially you guys said he left
because of his studies …. so
why didn’t you just say he
left the group?
We didn’t say that , because he
was our brother and we didn’t
want anything that would dent
his image. You see, even when
he was not in the group we
used to talk to him but recently
maybe somebody advised him
otherwise…. to blackmail us … he
just changed and he started
saying that you guys said I
went back to school but you
drove me away from the group.
So our management felt it’s high
time we told the press our own
side too. Basically the thing is
between him and the
management and not us.
Is he still your friend?
Yes he is, but he is the one going
about painting the picture that
we are enemies. You see we
wanted to push this aside and
move on. We wanted him to
come to us and make us friends
again but he went on listening
to wrong advice and that is
very dangerous. You know
there is nothing as bad as
wrong advice… it kills. He should
come to us and let’s talk as
brothers.
What inspired Yori Yori?
It was the media . During the
days of Happy day it wasn’t
really good but because the
media was still writing about us
even when we were out of the
scene for three years we
thought we still had some
things to offer, so we decided
to do something special for our
fans. That was when the
inspiration came but we weren’t
really feeling it then and the
same Bishop that is now making
allegations against us said we
should give it Faze’ beat and we
told him we can not copy it.
He said we should give it to the
producer to produce and God
knows that we are telling the
truth. Bistop never wrote a
verse in the song aside the rap
and it was cleaned off when he
left the group. Honestly, it was
him (referring to Nwanchukwu)
that wrote the song .Why didn’t
Bishop say he wrote Adaowerri
too because we wrote that
when he left the group. He could
have said that too but thank
God he left the group before we
wrote that song. Bishop doesn’t
write songs, so he should stop
what he is saying and face his
work.
What is your relationship like
with P Square?
They are more like brothers to
us. It’s been a long time we met
them. Since we did the happy
day song we have been friends.
We call them our brothers.
Is music a family thing?
Alli: Yes it is in my family… we
love music because when my
grandfather was still alive, you
know he stayed alone in a very
big compound. He would make
drums, the local guitar and he
played it all alone. Even when I
was small I used to play music all
alone too.
Nwachukwu: Mine started from
the choir and also I had siblings
who were in the choir too… so I
can say it’s a family thing too.
At what point did you decide
to take music seriously?
It’s been a long time because
when you are underground as
an artiste and you have not
made it you have a dream that
one day you will get there. But
we started taking it seriously
when we released Happy Day.
Was there any objection
from your parents?
Well sometimes, they would
support you when it’s going
well but when it’s no longer
going well, they would then say
“We don’t think this is really
working out well, so go face
your studies squarely. It wasn’t
regular… but they were so
particular about our studies.
Was there a time you were
so frustrated you wanted to
pull out?
Ha… that happened a lot of
times…. we had several
experiences that almost made us
pull out. Even before we did Yori
Yori we wanted to go our
separate ways. But by the grace
of God we are still together….
unfortunately the third guy is
no longer here and it wasn’t our
fault but his own doing. If he is
not sincere enough to say what
really happened then let it be.
Was there any event that
really made you feel so bad?
I remember when we went for
Star Quest 2002, it was so
frustrating because we had no
money and from UNN then we
had to go to Enugu . We had to
hustle for transport fare and
what have you. Infact, we
hoped we could win a prize and
get money from there but we
didn’t win anything. We were
left with nothing and dropped
at the audition.
We went about borrowing
money and we were insulted
but some people helped us. Also,
you know sometimes your
parents won’t give you
attention because you are a
musician. Sometimes we were
unable to afford our school fees.
So it’s very frustrating. But we
still thank God for the
experiences we had.
What is the main challenge
you are facing now in the
industry?
The main challenge is that the
face and the name grow bigger
than the pocket. It’s not that the
pocket is not good but when an
artiste rises to a certain level
some people see you as a god
and people’s expectation for our
next album would take a lot of
hard work because people’s
expectation right now about us
is high.
How do you cope with
female fans?
Well for that question we would
say, business for business,
pleasure for pleasure.
Are you into any
relationships?
Nwachukwu: I don’t know
about him o! But as for me it is
still complicated right now.
Alli: I’m single but not searching.
If you had not done music
what would have done?
Alli: If I had not done music I
could have been a lawyer.
Though I’m reading Psychology
now.
Nwachukwu: Well I wanted to
be like you, a Journalist. You
know I am a Mass
Communication student.
How has it been combining
academics with music?
We thank God…. had it been that
UNN was not on strike we could
have finished this session and
by next year we would be
through. Other schools are in
session now, but we are not . So
it’s affecting us really bad.
Are you sure music has not
affected your studies?
Of course it has because we are
not always in class but we try to
balance things and make sure
we read and go for our exams.
We make sure we go to class as
frequently as we can.

French film maker Blanchet killed in kabul

French filmmaker Severin
Blanchet has been killed in a
suicide attack by insurgents on
a hotel in Kabul, Afghanistan.
The documentary filmmaker,
who was training young
Afghans at the French film
school Ateliers Varan, was killed
on Friday (26Feb10) at the Park
Residence, a popular
guesthouse for foreigners,
reports the New York Times. He
was 66.
According to police officials, at
least 18 people, including
French, Italian, Afghan and
many Indian nationals, were
killed in suicide and car bomb
attacks on two guesthouses in
the capital.
French Foreign Minister Bernard
Kouchner paid tribute to the
filmmaker on Friday, saying: I
salute the memory of our
compatriot Severin Blanchet. He
was a privileged partner in
French cultural action in
Afghanistan. We will pursue
with determination the work
that he had started with such
generosity and solidarity.

Stallone and Richard lands Bollywood razies

Sylvester Stallone and former
BOND girl Denise Richards'
Bollywood debuts have been
panned by critics - they have
both received nominations for
worst movie performance at
India's annual Golden Kela
Awards.
The American stars appear
together in Kambakkht Ishq
(Unfortunate Love), alongside
Superman Returns actor
Brandon Routh and Bollywood
regulars Akshay Kumar and
Kareena Kapoor.
But their performances have
failed to wow Hindu movie
critics and the 2009 romantic
comedy has landed them
dishonours for the Bollywood
equivalent of the Razzies.
Stallone and Richards will
compete for the Baawra ho
gaya hai ke (Have you gone
crazy?) category, while the
movie itself, directed by Sabir
Khan, is up for a total of eight
awards, including Worst Film.
Meanwhile, Aussie singer/
actress Kylie Minogue has been
mauled for her performance of
Chiggy Wiggy, which she sang
in the movie Blue. The track,
written by Abbas Tyrewala, has
been named in the Most
Atrocious Lyrics category.
The stars' nominations have
prompted religious scholar
Rajan Zed to call for movie
executives to concentrate on
producing quality films, instead
of just attaching big names to
the projects to pull in big bucks
at the box office.
Zed, who is the president of
Universal Society of Hinduism,
says, Both Hollywood and
Bollywood should focus on
quality rather than quantity.
Quantity, mixed with mercantile
greed, resulted in them ending
up in Razzies and Golden Kelas.
The Golden Kelas (bananas) will
be handed out in Delhi on 12
March . (Mt/wn/ig)

by Bruce Springsteen, with
about half that-- $57,619,037.

Lindsay parties three late night in a row

Lindsay
Lohan , will
you ever
learn? Just
days after
opening up
about her
past
problems to
the Sun newspaper, and adding
that those days are behind her,
Lindsay is back to her old ways.
She’s currently back in Los
Angeles, and back to partying
every night of the week.
According to People, Lohan has
been out the last three nights.
Not exactly what we ’d expect
for someone trying to revamp
their tarnished image.
Sources say Lindsay kicked off
the week by going to Teddy's,
where Samantha Ronson
happened to be spinning that
night. Lindsay proceeded to
request a table near Ronson and
was denied. She was "a total
mess," a witness says. "She
looked really drunk when she
arrived and seemed so out of it.”
Things continued at nightclub
Bardot on Tuesday, with Lindsay
reportedly arrived after 1am.
But Sam made sure Lindsay
stayed away, by asking security
to stay by her side all night. "She
wouldn't leave, and at the end
of the night, you could tell she
was waiting for Sam," the
source says, adding that Lohan
texted her ex, who ignored the
message.
"They never talked at all, though,
and Sam was definitely avoiding
[her]," the source says.
Strike three occurred Wednesday
night at Chateau Marmont.
Eyewitnesses say Lindsay was
acting “aloof” – though this time
Sam wasn't there. Now Lindsay’s
friends are speaking up. “She
needs help. She needs to solve
her problems," a source close to
the star says. "She ’s just not
taking care of herself."
We all know what Michael Lohan
thinks about his daughter! And
now her friends are finally
speaking out, as well as
Samantha Ronson. When will
Lindsay learn that no one
believes her “sober” act? She’s
desperate for attention and the
fame she once had. Sadly, she ’s
not going to find either of those
things at a nightclub.

Paris brazillian beer commercial too sexy?

Paris Hilton
is causing a
stir in Brazil,
all over a
commercial!
The heiress
stars in an
ad for
Devassa
beer, and the government thinks
it ’s just a little too sexy! In the
commercial, Paris rubs a beer can
across her body in the window
of an office building as people
on the street and in an office
stare.
The government claims the
reason they ’re against it is
because “advertising models
won’t be treated as sex objects.”
A spokeswoman for the
Women ’s Secretariat said they’ve
received numerous complaints:
“ It’s an ad that devalues women
— in particular, blond women.”
“The problem with the ad isn’t a
lack of clothing, but its sensual
nature, ” she added. “A woman in
a bikini on a beach isn’t
necessarily sensual; it depends
on the context. ”
Apparently women in Brazilian-
cut bikinis better stay on the
beach while in Brazil, or there ’s a
problem! Talk about a double
standard. We think the
commercial is hot! Check it out
below!

Brad pitt to spend $10k on shiloh

Shiloh Jolie-
Pitt has
herself a
little sugar
daddy! Brad
Pitt has
reportedly
taken his
little girl on a
shopping spree to the tune of
$10,000! He, Shiloh and Zahara
shopped in Paris, and apparently
Brad let the girls pick out all their
own stuff.
A source told People: "Zahara
chose very girlie outfits, but
Shiloh only wanted items from
the boys' collection, which is in
another boutique across the
street."
Another source added to X17
Online: "Shiloh had absolutely no
interest in the pretty dresses or
skirts."
That certainly explains her new
boyish haircut! Brad reportedly
spent $10,000 on the entire
Spring/Summer 2010 Bonpoint
boys' collection for Shiloh, and
later returned to spend another
$4,000.
Brad says Shiloh has been in her
boyish stage for awhile now. He
said: "She only wants to be called
John. John or Peter. So it's a
'Peter Pan' thing. So we've got
to call her John, 'Shi, do you
want...' - 'John. I'm John.' And
then I'll say, 'John, would you
like some orange juice?' It's just
that kind of stuff that's cute to
parents, and it's probably really
obnoxious to other people."
We think it’s adorable! It’s so fun
to hear about Brad being a
daddy!

Tiger's camp angry over billboard

PETA's idea

now being
put on hold.
According to
TMZ, Tiger's attorneys have
threatened to sue the
organization if they go through
with it.
PETA released a statement
saying, "In light of conversations
we have had with Mr. Woods'
attorneys, plans to run our
billboard are on hold at this
time."
Guess Tiger couldn't find the
humor in it! In related news, TMZ
is also reporting that Tiger's
people are the ones who
orchestrated the first pictures of
him last week.
Jonathan Klein, CEO of Getty
Images, says Tiger's people
approached him with the idea to
shoot the photos. He told CNBC,
"We were approached and Tiger
happened to know the
photographer (Sam Greenwood)
and has known him for a long

Seems like Tiger is intent on
keeping his squeaky clean image
going from now on. That's why
they photographed him on a
good healthy run!

Oya:Tale of love ruined me

The recent performance of
Lekan Balogun’s Oya by the
Department of Theatre Arts and
Music, Lagos State University
(LASU), Ojo sounded a warning
to warmongers that they may
end up losing their invaluable
possessions.
Produced by 200 level students
as a Play Production Workshop,
the play dramatized the intricate
but revealing story of Yoruba
myths and legends, including
Oya (Olokodona Toyin) goddess
of the River, Ogun (Azeez
Abiodun Saheed) the god of Iron
and Sango (Smith Oluwaseun)
the god of thunder.
Using the medium of total
theatre, with the combination
of dance, drama and music, the
marriage between Oya and
Sango was consummated after
Oya divorced Ogun, her first
husband. As the drums rolled by
to usher in the players on stage,
there was no dull moment. An
appreciable tempo was
maintained from the beginning
to the end of the play. This
added to the overall aesthetics
of production.
The play opened with Oya telling
Arewa (Egbemode Toun) how
she dreamt of a wedding.
Meanwhile, Sango who had
earlier lost his wife sent Omiran
(Fidelis Victor) to woo Oya on
his behalf. But Oya insulted
Sango’s messenger and asked
him to tell Sango that she is not
a flirt. As Sango, son of
Oranmiyan went to Oya himself,
he demanded that both of them
become friends. He
subsequently vowed to get
Oya’s hand in marriage. Oya
warned him not to attempt
what he could not complete.
Even with her refusal, Oya too
was worried about her
childlessness and how her
husband, Ogun was maltreating
her. When Ogun returned from
war and Oya emotionally
complained “every farmer
knows that to have a good
harvest you must plant on the
soil,’’ Ogun gave her attention.
Soon Ogun received signal that
he was needed at the warfront.
He suddenly abandoned Oya,
telling her that “a soldier has his
war to fight.’’
All the efforts Oya made to
persuade him to stay back and
give her attention was futile, as
Ogun insisted “They have called
me to the war front.’’ This
prompted Oya to vow, saying
“another man may enter.” But
the warmonger Ogun insisted “I
will not succumb to a woman’s
miserable emotion and leave
war.’’ With this as Ogun left, Oya
vowed that she would willingly
meet the man who wanted to
steal her heart. She visited Sango
and implored him to teach her
how to dance.
As Ogun returned, he was
furious that Oya was not in the
house. As he learnt that she was
in Sango’s house, Ogun vowed
to fight Sango, but he eventually
realized that Oya has truly fallen
in love with Sango, and said he
would fight no more.
The constant use of drum on
stage enhanced the tempo of
the play, though most of the
songs that accompanied the
drums were not in harmony. All
the same the songs portrayed
the atmosphere of Yoruba war
situation, which the play was
out to dramatize. The use of rich
costumes and make up portray a
true Yoruba setting, except that
more research could have been
done to discover the suitability
of periodic costumes.
The use Aso Oke in the play was
more contemporary than the
one expected in the historical
play.

Renner:crazy about best friend Theron

The Hurt Locker star Jeremy
Renner has brushed off
rumours he's dating newly-
single actress Charlize Theron ,
admitting they're crazy about
each other - but just as friends.
South African native Theron
reportedly ended her nine-year
relationship with Irish actor
Stuart Townsend in January ,
although the stars have yet to
confirm the break-up.
Theron has been good pals with
Renner for years, but they
sparked reports of a new
romance after they were
spotted enjoying nights out
together in Hollywood in the
weeks following the Townsend
split claims.
But Renner is adamant his
relationship with Theron is
strictly platonic.
He tells People magazine, We're
just friends. We're crazy about
each other. I can go hang out
with her and play her piano and
sip Scotch.

Clooney denies selling italian villa to Beckham

George Clooney has shot down
reports he's set to sell his Lake
Como villa in Laglio, Italy to
soccer ace David Beckham and
his wife Victoria.
Beckham, who is currently in
the country on loan to top
soccer club Ac Milan, was
rumoured to be in negotiations
to buy the luxury $$41.6 million
(£26 million) property from
the Hollywood star.
The British sportsman is quoted
in the Italian media as saying, I
have fallen in love with the
beautiful countryside. It's
peaceful, quiet and near Milan. It
would be great for the family.
The reports were further
fuelled by the city's mayor
Roberto Pozzi, who was
hopeful the Beckhams would
move into the area with their
three sons.
Pozzi said, I know the Beckhams
stayed at the villa last spring
but I never saw them - if
George does leave then I hope
the Beckhams do buy the place
as it will keep a touch of
glamour in Laglio.
But Clooney has been quick to
dismiss the claims, insisting
they are made up.
In a statement, he says, To
complete the news cycle: I am
not buying an island and am
not selling my house in Italy.
The story was made up, then
picked up and now denied.

Johnny Depp to start in movie with his girlfriend

Johnny
Depp is one
of the most
talented
actors in the
biz, and
anyone
would be
lucky just to
be able to shoot one scene with
him. His longtime girlfriend
Vanessa Paradis is already the
luckiest woman on the earth for
being with him, but now she
gets to share the big screen with
him as well.
Depp and Paradis are set to
appear in the new movie My
American Lover together,
marking the first time they'll
work together on a project.
Baby making doesn't count.
He said: “It’s in preparation. It's
called ‘My American Lover’.
Vanessa plays the French
feminist Simone de Beauvoir and
I play her lover Nelson Algren
who is real macho. ”
"Simone de Beauvoir was a 20th
century French writer and
philosopher famous for her
treatise ‘The Second Sex’, an
analysis of women's oppression
and contemporary feminism,
and her open relationship with
existentialist philosopher Jean-
Paul Sartre. She traveled through
Latin America with writer Algren
in 1949," reports Bang Showbiz.
The couple has been together
for over 12 years so they
probably have their chemistry
down. Seeing them on the big
screen should be interesting!
What do you think of Depp and
Paradis collaborating?

Madonna's boytoy jesus signs a record deal

Madonna
comes with
some
serious
perks. Not
only do you
gain
international
fame overnight, if you're Jesus
Luz, you get a record deal.
Madge's 23 year-old boy toy
Jesus just got signed under
Madonna's label, Warner
Brothers, and will be releasing
his new album soon.
Jesus' first single, entitled 'We
Came From Light', will be
released in the summer-- the
same time a handful of
Madonna's classic songs,
including 'Vogue' and 'Like A
Prayer', will be licensed for a
major advertising campaign in
the US.
A source said: "Madonna was
determined to give Jesus all the
help she can. She holds a lot of
sway at Warners, where she had
a deal until very recently. But
getting him on the books wasn't
completely plain sailing. There
was a little give and take
between her and execs, but a
compromise was eventually
settled upon."
Not only did she help him get a
record deal, she got legendary
house music producer Victor
Calderone to agree to work with
him.
The source added to The Sun
newspaper: "Madonna really
wants Jesus' career to take off.
She's been going through her
Filofax and putting him in
contact with as many of her
influential pals as she can.
"She's worked with Victor for a
very long time and he
understands just what she likes.
Having him work on Jesus'
tracks will give them a cool
cachet which is essential to
building a clubland buzz."
Madonna's a very smart
businesswoman, she wouldn't
be helping him unless she was
going to gain monetarily from
the project as well. What do you
think of Jesus as a pop star?
Think he has what it takes?

Jenny mc carthy and jim Carey to marry

Jenny
McCarthy
and Jim
Carrey have
always said
they
wouldn ’t get
married. But
things may
finally be changing for the
adorable couple. Jenny spoke
with Us Weekly and said that
recently she had a slight change
of heart.
"We say 'never,' but I don't
know," she said. "Maybe for tax
purposes, someday, when we
are old."
Jenny insists she and her beau
Jim don ’t need any labels put on
their relationship quite yet. She
adds: "That's what we keep
joking -- like, when we are 70!
But for now, we're fine. We are
really fine!"
Jenny and Jim, who are 37 and
48 respectively, may not be old,
but they ’re getting ready to be
grandparents! Jim’s daughter
Jane is due to give birth next
week. And Jenny couldn ’t be
more thrilled about the addition
to the family. "I love it! I love,
love, love it," McCarthy said. "I
think I'm going to be the
awesome grandma, the world's
best, is what I say."
We love this couple! They
obviously don ’t need any labels
to prove their affection. In fact,
in the past, Jim had told
Hollyscoop that he and Jenny
were pretty much married
anyway. He said at the time, “We
love each other and we are
married whether somebody said
it or not. Whether we had some
kind of ceremony or not, we
believe that nothing outside of
yourself can make your union
sacred except you.”
Hollywood couples: take note!

And it seems the songstress was
quite impressed with his work,
since they ’re now going to be
working together on the rest of
her tour.
According to Vogue, Armani has
created several outfits for Gaga
to don during the remainder of
her Monster Ball tour. She ’s
currently in the UK, playing dates
in Liverpool, London and
Glasgow in the next few days,
and is set to travel through
Australia and Europe in the
coming weeks.
Vogue reports: “Looks include a
a sparkly structured body suit
with enhanced curved shoulders,
another body suit with a lobster
effect on one sleeve, a
geometric mini-dress with a
dramatic mirror effect, and a
floor-length black patent trench.
Each look is completed with
specially made matching shoes
and sunglasses, all by Armani. ”
The designer seems to be
smitten with Gaga at the
moment, saying, "We hear Lady
Gaga's music everywhere we go,
it is like a soundtrack of our
times. In addition to her
formidable songwriting skills,
she is a modern fashion
phenomenon."
What a great pairing! And Gaga
must be so fun to dress, since no
outfit choice is too daring for
her.

Jay-z:I created''single ladies''dance

Jay-Z and
Beyonce
are about as
“ power
couple” as
they come
these days.
And rather
than
compete with each other, this
married couple shares their
ideas!
Jay appeared on the BBC
program Friday Night with
Jonathan Ross, and talked about
how he and Beyonce take each
other ’s moves all the time.
“She’s a magnificent performer,”
Jay said of B. “I’ve stolen many
routines from her…she’s stolen
many things from me. Ya know,
you see it on stage, the whole
‘ Uh-oh’ dance.”
As for ‘Single Ladies’, Ross was
dying to know more about it. He
asked Jay, “Has Beyonce
performed that for you at
home? Did she try out the moves
for you before the video ?”
Surprisingly, Jay-Z replied, “I
actually created that dance. It
was me …again. I said ‘you
should do this,’ and she did it.”
Somehow we can’t see Jay-Z in
the little leotard teaching his
wife the moves to the dance!

Lady GaGa talk of penis rumours

Lady Gaga
is finally
addressing
those
rumors from
last year
that she
may have a
manly part
on her. Last August, Gaga’s
performance at the Glastonbury
Festival raised a lot of eyebrows,
mainly because it appeared that
the singer had something
bulging from her short dress.
Gaga only played into the rumor,
not confirming nor denying the
story. But she ’s so out there,
that eventually the media moved
on. Months later, Gaga is
discussing the very issue with
Britain ’s Q magazine. She appears
topless on the cover and says,
“ We all know that one of the
biggest talking points of the
year was that I have a d***, so
why not give them what they
want ?”
Gaga says that the image she
portrays has always been a
talking point. "The last thing a
young woman needs is another
picture of a sexy pop star
writhing in sand, covered in
grease, touching herself. My
image was an issue at my record
label. I fought for months and
cried at meetings," she said. "I
got criticized for being arrogant
because if you're sure of
yourself as a woman they say
you're a bitch whereas if you're
a man and you're strong-willed
it's normal."
Gaga says her performance at
Glastonbury was planned. She
said, “I want to wear a d***
strapped to my vagina. I also
carry myself onstage in a
masculine way and sing in a low
register. This is not out of
nowhere, right? I want to
comment on that in a beautiful,
artistic way. How I wanna show
it. And I want to call this piece
Lady Gaga Dies Hard. ”
Guess we’ll never fully
understand her! But underneath
the façade, Gaga thinks of
herself as a total lady. "Well, I
believe in certain institutions:
cooking, serving dinner, taking
care of my family," she told the
magazine.
We’re sure there are a ton of
different sides to Gaga we’ve
never been exposed to yet. She
definitely always keeps us
guessing!

Jennifer Lopez dumped by record label

This must be
a big blow
for Jennifer
Lopez!
It was just
announced
that J.Lo and
her record
label, Sony Music Epic Records
were parting ways. Lopez has
been with Sony for the majority
of her singing career so this is a
big shocker.
“Sony Music execs aren’t sure
who her audience is anymore,” a
source told Deadline. “Where
once she had little girls, she’s
been supplanted by Beyonce,
Lady Gaga, and Rihanna.
“Lots of fighting going on
between Benny Medina (who, of
course, is spending their money
like it ’s 10 years ago) and the
label.”
Her manager Benny Medina,
confirmed the split from the
label stating that it was the right
time to party ways.
“Jennifer had a wonderful
relationship with the Sony Music
group, and they have shared
many successes together, but
the time was right to make a
change that best serves the
direction her career as an actress
and recording artist,” he said in a
statement.
“She is grateful and appreciative
to everyone Sony for all that
they accomplished together. ”
Lopez has been going around
promoting some album she has
coming out, but that album
doesn't have a release date
anymore due to the departure.
She is currently in talks with
bosses at Island Def Jam in L.A.

Lady GaGa want a husband and babies

Lady Gaga
who is on
fire with her
career right
now says
that she
can't wait
until she is a
wife and a
mother.
Gaga who won three awards at
the BRIT Awards last week
revealed: “I want to have a
husband who loves and
supports me, just the way
anyone else does. I am a very
sentimental person and family is
important to me. ”
Gaga who is currently dating her
style collaborator Matthew
Williams is apparently falling
really hard for him.
A source said: "Matthew and
Gaga have been dating for
months. They were together on
and off for more than a year,
but called it off when mixing
work and love became too
difficult."
Seeing Gaga as a mother would
be very interesting. We're
wondering if she would do her
mommy duties while in costume

Douglas girlfriend pleaded guilty of drug charges

Cameron Douglas' girlfriend has
pled guilty to possessing
methamphetamine, six months
after she was arrested on
suspicion of smuggling drugs to
the troubled actor.
Kelly Sott, 31, was taken into
police custody in August after
she was caught attempting to
hand over the drugs, hidden in
an electric toothbrush, to
Michael Douglas' 32-year-old
son while he was under house
arrest at his mother Diandra
Douglas' New York apartment.
Security guards subsequently
searched Sott's bag and found
the toothbrush and 19 tiny
bags containing a brownish
substance that appeared to be
heroin.
Sott, who claims she was
unaware of the drugs, was
then taken back to the room
she had shared with Douglas at
Manhattan's Hotel Gansevoort,
where police discovered a stash
of heroin, crystal meth and
marijuana.
On Monday (22Feb10), Sott pled
guilty to a misdemeanour
charge of possessing
methamphetamine, which
carries a maximum one year
prison sentence, reports
TMZ.com.
Douglas was busted in a drugs
raid at the Hotel Gansevoort on
3 August and was charged with
possessing methamphetamines
with intent to distribute.
Reports suggest the It Runs In
The Family star had been
plotting to move approximately
$$18,000 (£12,000)-worth of
crystal meth from California to
New York to sell when an
undercover informant alerted
the U.s. Drug Enforcement
Administration of Douglas'
involvement.
Douglas pled guilty to drug
trafficking last month (Jan10)
and faces a minimum 10-year
prison sentence if convicted.

Michael lohan slams lindsay's drug comments

Lindsay Lohan's dad MICHAEL
has defended his decision to
speak out about the actress'
drug problems, insisting he has
only turned to the press
because he is desperately
worried about the star.
Michael Lohan first opened up
about his famous daughter in
2007 and has since become well
known for airing his grievances
about their fractured
relationship in public.
The Mean Girls star entered
rehab twice in 2007 and she
recently claimed her dad's
outspoken nature caused her
drug-taking to spiral out of
control.
In a candid interview with
Britain's The Sun newspaper,
Lohan said, When my father
was going public, that's when I
hit rock bottom.
But Michael has slammed the
allegations, insisting his
daughter's wild ways had
become uncontrollable, forcing
him to turn to the media as a
last resort.
Lohan Sr. admits he's pleased
the star is finally coming to
terms with her drug problems
but he is adamant she's still
hooked on prescription pills.
He tells Hollyscoop.com, In
response to Lindsay's interview
with the Sun: While I'm very
happy that Lindsay is beginning
to come 'clean,' the truth of the
matter is I went public when
she hit rock bottom. She Did Not
Go Rock Bottom When I Went
Public...
And while I find her admissions
of her experiences with alcohol
and cocaine to be noble, the
Real Problem still exists with
the prescription drug use that
the so-called 'addiction

Michael accepts his messy
divorce from Dina Lohan may
have prompted Lindsay to get
addicted to prescription drugs,
but he has vowed to continue

Lindsay is completely clean and

He says, Lindsay and my other

The problem for Lindsay and so

Jolie reunite with estranged dad Voight

Angelina Jolie has stepped out
in public with her estranged
father Jon Voight for the first
time in several years.
The actress cut her dad out of
her life in 2001 after he voiced
concerns about her mental
health shortly before she
adopted son Maddox from
Cambodia.
Voight has made several
attempts to mend his fractured
relationship with Jolie, and the
veteran star revealed in
November the pair is back in
contact.
Jolie has now publicly shown
she has put her troubles with
Voight behind her, after she
was snapped enjoying time
with him in Venice, Italy, where
she is preparing to film The
Tourist alongside Johnny Depp.
Voight spent time with Jolie,
her partner Brad Pitt, and their

combination? It would be one
hell of an interesting piece.

Uche Jumbo sue magazine #100 billion

To prove her innocence and
warn other magazines against
publishing falsehood against
her, star actress, Uche Jombo has
dragged a Lagos magazine to
court for libel and asking for
N100 billion.
Some weeks back, the magazine
went to town with a front page
story that the Glo Ambassador
aborted a six-month-old
pregnancy and as a result lost so
much weight. The magazine
claimed that the man
responsible for the pregnancy is
one footballer named
Okechukwu Uche.
The actress came out smoking
after reading the publication.
She denied the report and took
the magazine to the cleaner’s .
She issued two press statements
and instructed her lawyer to
serve the magazine a letter
demanding an apology and
retraction.
After the stipulated period of
grace for the magazine to
publish a retraction and
apologise expired, her lawyer,
Victor Ukutt Esq went to court
Tuesday, February 16, 2010 and
filed a lawsuit demanding N100
billion in a Lagos High Court.
A source close to the actress
said she is really angry and
determined to teach the
magazine a lesson.

i pray not to cheat on my husband-NSE IKE ETIM

People started taking note of
Nse Ike –Etim after her role as
Ramsey Nouah’s wife in
Reloaded. And just when fans
were still catching their breath,
she played another pulsating
role in Guilty Pleasure. As it is
now, Nse is making her mark in
the almost over crowded
Nollywood and we find her
irresistible, hence this interview.
How does it feel to live in
Abuja and be amongst the
top ten actresses in Lagos?
It’s the grace of God ; though I
am living far away from the hub
of Nollywood, I am still
recognized. Somehow, I have
been lucky enough to be called
upon when there is a new
movie. If I’m fit for a role, I
would be called. If not, other
actresses would do it.
How did you get your role in
Reloaded?
It was practically imposed on me
by Emem Isong and I am
thankful to her because if she
didn’t do it, I probably wouldn’t
have been considered for acting
again. She went on and on,
telling me I could do it and I
went in there and I did what I
had to do.
Was it your first?
Yes,after a decade.
Where were you?
I was in a different industry. I
was into banking, I was also in
the Media, and into fashion as
well. I did a lot of things,
sometimes I can’t even
remember everything.
Why were you jumping from
one place to the other?
Like they say, when you go
through fire, the outcome is
always beautiful, just like a piece
of gold.
Why did you leave in the
first place?
To go and get beautiful
( Laughs)
But then, a lot of people
would have given all they
had to get into Nollywood,
why did you leave?
I think when you are trying to
discover yourself, you are
constantly searching for
yourself and when you are
doing that, you want to be
satisfied with whatever you are
doing. It’s not new to move
from place to place but at the
end, what you achieve is greater
because it is then you’ll know
what you want and your worth.
Sometimes, people ask, why am I
here? It is a question everyman
should ask himself… why am I
on earth? Is it just to be an actor
or a presenter? I can confidently
stand and talk to anyone from
any industry because I have
been everywhere.
Have you found what you
are looking for in acting?
Yes and it is quite satisfying. I
found it and I am enjoying it
immensely.
Where are you from?
Akwa Ibom. I am Edidiong.
Is there a bit of Omotse,
your role in Guilty Pleasure in
you?
I think there is a bit of it in
almost everybody. If you try
some people and they don’t
respond, the day they’ll respond,
you won’t believe it. So, there is
always a point people get to and
they can no longer hold it… they
just spill it out. So, that was the
challenge Omotse had . She was
tired of her ever-busy husband
and the best way of handling
matters no longer mattered. We
were only trying to repeat what
happens, it has nothing to do
with my person. I think all I did
was to become the character at
a point in time.
Why are you always acting
the role of a disadvantaged
housewife?
Do you think being an
housewife is an advantage? I
don’t think so. I’m glad you’ll
agree with me that the woman
didn’t go out of her way to
cheat on her husband,
something pushed her to it. I
don’t know why I’m always
playing that part, or why I was
chosen to play that part. If I
delivered, I am glad.
Can you do some of the
things you did in Guilty
Pleasure in real life? Like, if
you don’t get what you
want from your husband,
can you go outside to get it?
Since I have never been married,
it will be hard to put myself in
her shoes right now and
imagine it. So, when I get
married, I can answer your
question.
Not even ‘I can never!’ or ‘I
will never!’ why?
You see, when you say words
like, I can never do it and you
finally did one day, people will
criticize you and call you all sorts
of names. I am not saying I am
going to do it but my saying
‘never’ is not a good thing. I will
pray to God to direct my steps
and not to cheat on my
husband. It’s the only way. I will
pray for him not to go astray
because he’s human.
Do you believe men can be
faithful?
Yes. I believe that the man who
knows God can be faithful. It is
a tough course because there
are too many beautiful women.
I pity men, but yes, they can be
faithful and it’s happening.
Are you saying a man can be
married for 20 years and not
cheat?
Yes, it is possible. The thing is,
we do not examine ourselves
enough to know how far we
can go.
Have you ever had a very
faithful boyfriend?
Yes. This is what I have grown
to believe… he and he only can
tell you the truth but what I
believe is that he was faithful.
Does your belief measure up
to 100 percent?
Once, I believe a person, I believe
him.
Do you believe that women
can be faithful?
Yes, I think we have a better
threshold to hold on than men.
It is more difficult for men but
easier for women… plus a
woman needs an excuse to
cheat, a man doesn’t.
Have you ever had an excuse
to cheat?
Like I said, I won’t answer this
question until I am married.
What’s happening with you
and Fred Amata?
I once granted an interview
about Jetta Amata, the producer
and director of Amazing Grace.
They’ve been my friends for
over 13 years. In fact, when he
introduces my sister to people,
he says “that is my best-friend’s
sister”. I was shocked when I
read in the paper that because a
campaign was run for a
colleague, Fred Amata when he
was in Celebrity Takes 2 that I
was dating him .
Even Yemi Blaq sent me a
massage to vote for him and to
canvass for votes for him . I felt
bad because I couldn’t even
reply that text massage telling
him that, I am sorry I can’t do
anything for you on Facebook,
my manager is already using
Facebook for Fred. After all that
support, a national newspaper
decided to mention that I have
been dating Fred Amata for over
13 years and I mentioned it to
them. I don’t even have Fred
Amata’s number. I was looking
for Fred’s number thinking that
was it possible for that
newspaper to have sent me his
number?
Why did you campaign for
Fred?
My manager campaigned for
Fred and she asked for my
permission and I told her that
Fred was my friend, and truly,
he is. He is one of those people
that wanted me back in the
industry and I would say I am in
the bank. They used to feel bad
about it. I think publicity is a
good thing, at least they are
putting my name in their paper.
But a lot of people thought
you and Jetta were dating, is
this true?
He’s a good man ( Laughs), but
we never dated. Ubong is my
good friend, I can’t deny that.
Do you also remember that he
did a job in Benue state that I
wasn’t part of? That’s what
friendship is but if he was my
boyfriend, I must be there.
How was growing up?
I grew up like every other
normal kid. It was fun though… I
grew up around Nigeria. I was in
Zaria at a time. I attended the
Federal Government College,
Ilorin. I furthered my education
at the University of Calabar and
I have a Bachelor of Arts in
theater arts. I used to have a TV
show many years ago.
You seem to be restless.
Why?
No, not that. I have also worked
in different radio stations and
even had a programme that was
aired round the country. I also
went into banking to prove a
point to my mother. My mom,
though was supportive in every
way, wondered why I chose the
career I chose and she thought I
wasn’t stable. So, what I did was
to go into banking for a year
and a half. It was interesting
and granted me a bit of stability
which I think still works for me
till date. “If I no get money, I no
fit die”.
I have been exposed to the
intricacies of these things. It is
not working hard, it is working
smart and other things like that.
I went into fashion as well, but
it is amazing that I always run
from what I love to do best
which is cooking. A friend of
mine kept insisting that I should
take it up as a business and I still
thank her for that word of
encouragement. Now, I review, I
write, and I am into catering. I
am acting too. All these things
are artistically inclined.
Aside Guilty Pleasure have
you been getting more jobs?
Umm, yes we have been doing
fine.
Recently?
Yes, I just finished Spiral Band
with Emem Isong. You see the
thing is about the story. I’ve
always said I’m not going to do
this kind of job, I’m not going to
do this I’m not going to do that.
I want to be like this, I want to
be like that , but hey it’s
Nollywood.
Let me quickly ask you about
Guilty Pleasure. It is as if
your life depended on it .
What’s your take on that?
It did. So we acted well; thank
you. (Both laugh)
An actress whose name I
won’t mention once said to
The Sun that sometimes if
“you’re on set especially for
a week or two and had to
play a romantic role you’re
like sexually aroused.Is that
true?
I don’t know if it is a positive or
a negative thing but I think an
actor will get to a point in his
life where acting is acting. If I
am going to kiss someone and
make it look real, I’ll have to
paint the picture of the man I
would probably want to kiss or
maybe, my fantasy man. I’ll
make him look beautiful the
way I want him to look and I’ll
kiss him.
Are you saying emotion is
not involved?
Emotion is involved, because
you want to play your role well
but as soon as you finish, it’s all
over because the emotions
show through the eyes and the
camera is going to pick it so,
you’ve got to be in love at that
time.
How did you get into acting?
I stumbled into it. I went for an
audition and they were like, we
don’t have anyone for the
Adanma role and I offered to
play it for free and that was it.
Did you actually do it for
free?
Yes, I did it for free.
Have you found genuine love
before?
I guess if I have found it before,
I would have been married
because I wouldn’t have let it
go.
Is there a lucky man around?
To have that is more than being
lucky (laughs).
Are you saying you’re single,
available and free?
I don’t use those words.
Why?
That is because I can never be
available. I would rather say I
am single.
Are you looking for love?
You don’t look for love, it comes
to you. When it comes, I’ll let you
know.
Why do you love working
with Emem?
She’s a cool and nice person.
We’ve been friends for years .
Why haven’t they asked me if I
was going out with Emem?
( laughs).
What’s you view on
lesbianism?
I think everybody should live
their lives the way they want.
Anybody who wants to be
anything should be. People
should live and let live.
So are you saying there is
nothing wrong with
lesbianism?
I’m not saying there is
something wrong with it,
neither I’m I going to condemn
it.I am not going outside to
condemn anyone and judging
anyone The same God we
worship still keeps His people
alive , still loves them and gives
them grace. So who am I to
judge anybody?
Have you ever been
approached by lesbians?
No, I don’t know what they look
like . I know a guy has called me
before,… he said he saw my
picture in the paper, that he
wants me to be his girl friend.
Are you pretty?
No I don’t think I am.
You don‘t think you are
pretty?
No, not at all.
What were you taught when
you were growing up about
sex?
The first thing my mum told me
was that “if a man touches you,
you carry belle”
That is a lie?
No, she just said so, you know it
was a word of wisdom… and
every thing like that. Later she
was like, I think as a growing
child you need to learn about
sex.
Do you frown against sex
before marriage?
Yes I did, but in the world we
are living it will stop.
Does that mean you don’t do
it?
Does that mean I don’t have
sex? I’m not a virgin but my sex
life is private .
What is the most challenging
role you’ve played?
I think Omotse in Guilty Pleasure
was still my most challenging
role. There’s also Spellbound in
which I had to be kissing
Desmond .
Which Desmond?
The same Desmond. My roles
have been challenging really
because they required a lot of
initializing and rehearsing.

penn is jetting back to Haiti

Sean Penn is returning to Haiti
this weekend (20Feb10) to do
what he can to help the
survivors of the 12 January
earthquake, which ravaged the
nation, before storms cause
more damage and claim more
lives.
The movie star and activist was
among the first celebrities to jet
to Haiti to aid the relief effort
and insists he can't wait to get
back.
Speaking to U.S. news show
Extra just before his planned
flight back to Haiti's capital
Port-au-Prince, the worried
Oscar winner says, We have to
save Haiti.
During his recent three-week
stint in Haiti, Penn slept in a tent
and survived on just a few
hours of sleep a night, but a
return to that hardship will be
worth it if he can help get
homeless Haitians to safety
before the rains come.
He adds, Relocation is, right
now, the primary focus.
And the actor wants more
people to join him: You can
come to Haiti and do work if
you're a doctor or a relief
worker or if you can write a
cheque... Everything helps.
Penn admits the suffering he
has seen in Haiti could keep him
away from Hollywood for some
time - and that means he might
be forced to quit a planned
Three Stooges movie.
He explains, I'm not in a very
funny state of mind right now.
The movie star's return to Haiti
comes as a legal matter hangs
over him - on Friday (19Feb10),
Penn was charged with criminal
battery and vandalism
following a violent run-in with
a paparazzo in California last
year . (Kl/wnvex/rl)

Willis offer wolf killing tips

Bruce Willis is offering up tips
on how to kill a wolf with your
bare hands in a new survival
article.
The action man tells the new
issue of Men's Journal magazine
how to impress women, what
not to drink on a heavy night
out and the vital information
every father should pass onto
his children - but it's his precise
wolf-killing skills that will
impress most.
He suggests the first thing to
do when attacked in the wild is
to give the wolf your arm.
He explains, You've got to lean
into it, stick your arm all the
way down his throat. He can't
swallow it because he's
gagging on your arm.
You reach in, you grab a
handful of something - guts,
the back of its throat, whatever
you can hold - and pull it out.
And try to avoid those claws
while you're doing it.
Willis insists he's a wealth of
manly information like that.
He adds, If I ever get out of this
acting racket, I'm going to be
(TV self-help guru) Dr. Phil's
competition. Except I would be
the alpha-dog side and tell you
how to kill a wolf with your
bare hands.

Michael Jackson doctor charged with involuntary manslaughter

After spending the past eight
months since Michael Jackson's
death building a case--and the
past week playing will-they,
won't-they with the public--Los
Angeles prosecutors finally
believe they have enough
evidence to lay the blame on Dr.
Conrad Murray.
Not to mention finally managing
to keep a court date.
The district attorney formally
filed a misdemeanor count of
involuntary manslaughter against
Murray today, blaming Jackson's
personal physician with
overmedicating the star with the
powerful anesthetic propofol.
The charge carries a maximum of
four years in prison.
The court alleged that Murray "did
unlawfully, and without malice,
kill Michael Joseph Jackson...in the
commission of an unlawful act,
not amounting to a felony; and in
the commission of a lawful act
which might have produced
death, in an unlawful manner, and
without due caution and
circumspection."

I've loved.I've died.I've cried-BOUQUI

Bouqui to a large extent knows
her onions and she would not
compromise when it comes to
standards and setting standards.
In fact with all modesty Bouqui
is multi-talented. She did hard
core sciences and Further
Mathematics. She wanted to
study Medicine. She didn’t. She
ended-up studying
administration and music.
Bouqui has made the most out
of her talents and she’s enjoying
the rewards that come with
that. Above all, she preaches
Christ…she enjoys that too. Is
she averse to Nigeria? Find out
in this interview. Excerpts:
Why do you shoot your
videos abroad?
Well, I traveled five months ago
for my USA tour, so while I was
on tour I shot one in the U.K and
I shot one in Chicago. It wasn’t a
deliberate effort to shoot
abroad but it was because I was
there at that time and that was
what happened to all my videos.
It’s not like I am one of those
that would travel to South
Africa and shoot videos.
I was just there at that point
and I needed to do it. You know
I couldn’t travel down here at
that time because I live here and
I want to shoot the video here. I
love Nigerian producers and I
think videos are increasing. I
think the concept is good. I look
forward to shooting my videos
here but I’m always never
around and if I have to shoot a
video while I’m there I won’t
come around and spend money.
For instance I’m leaving next
month and if I have to shoot a
video then I would have to
shoot it there.
Are you doing something
permanent abroad?
Yes. It’s because I’ m always on
tour. The genre of songs I sing
takes me to different places and
by God’s grace I believe when
you are satisfying a need with
your songs you are fulfilling
your destiny. You know you are
answering questions of lots of
people. As long as you do
that,God will take you to greater
heights. I have decided to use
my songs to impact peoples
lives and God takes me to all
these places where people listen
to the messages in them. You
don’t have to do drugs, you
don’t have to smoke or abuse
alcohol. You can be positive with
your talents and gifts. So God
takes me to where they need to
hear the message in my songs. I
know they need to hear it in
Nigeria too, but I’m like an
arrow. The arrow won’t say to
the archer shoot in this direction
or the other. The arrow must be
patient… if you are in the
quiver, you have to stay put, as
long as you are sharp. When you
are called upon you just face the
direction of the target.
How have you been able to
blend rap and gospel?
Well, I’m not trying to blend rap
and gospel. I am a Christian and I
love God with all my heart and
what I do is to give my talent to
God. So the rap I do is not
because I am a rapper but that is
what I know how to do. That is
what I’m set out to be; a rapper
and God is using me for His
work. That is why a lot of
people miss it . They set out and
say they want to be a gospel
artiste and they don’t know Him.
But you can’t sing about the God
you don’t know. I sing about
Him and I know Him. He also
knows me and loves me too.
When I sing about Him, I sing to
Him, I sing for Him, I represent
Him. I can’t just say I’m a gospel
artiste and start messing around
tomorrow. I live according to
the dictates of the bible. So it is
not about singing gospel music ,
it’s about singing about my
passion.
What is your acceptance in
the church like here?
It’s awesome now; though in
the past people were like ha!
rap? A female gospel artiste? But
now people are getting to see
it… like I told you when you are
meeting a need you would be
amazed at people that call you
up. People that I grew up
watching on television now call
me up and tell me “I think you
have something special”.
It is believed that an average
female gospel musician
should wear a hat, no
trousers and probably no
jewelry, so what is your
view on that?
That is a stereotype and a lot of
people are breaking away from
that .They are enlightened.
People now realize that you can
actually use your talents to
worship God. Whatever you are,
you can come to God. The
reason many people backslide is
that people step out from who
they are to become someone
else. But at some point you
begin to backslide because you
are not comfortable. But if you
are you, then you won’t have
problem. This is me… I am fun,
and positively crazy … then you
remain in Christ.
A school of thought says
worldliness is coming into
the church. Do you believe
that?
The school of thought can say
anything , but it is true that the
world is coming into the church
and the church is coming into
the world. But you see, I believe
this is a personal walk with God
and you have chosen to walk
with Him. Everything people say
is water on a dog’s back as long
as you are living right. As long
as you’re going to stand before
him and give account of your
life, I’ve come to realize that you
can’t please people but you have
to please God. If you please God,
He will make your enemies to be
at peace with you. I won’t say
because I want to please you
then I tie a scarf. If I feel like, I
would. I remember I was invited
to the Foursquare Church I
think; and they said I could
come like this. But my spirit said
I should go there the way they
are because I was trying to
reach out to the people. What is
the point if I get there and the
people can’t connect with me
and they start saying, look at
her she is even wearing jeans?
So I went to get myself a funky
skirt and tied a bandana and
they listened to what I had to
say because the most important
is not me, because I wasn’t
selling myself. You see a lot of
people come to ask me how I try
to cope about other female
artistes. But I tell them the
difference is clear, I am not
trying to sell me but Christ. So, if
you want me to be Lagbaja
tomorrow I would, because I
want to get the message across.
It’s not about me… it’s about
God who I believe in.
What about the issue of
women wearing trousers
and make up?
You see in the old testament,
there were no trousers but
garments .Maybe they had
colors to differentiate them .
When I studied the genealogy of
men , they said men were
wearing the garments of
women so they would be able
to have access into their tents
and have sex with them. That
was why they said women
should not wear male attire and
men should not wear female
attire .
What was growing up like in
an academic environment?
It was fantastic. My dad was a
professor of biochemistry. We
grew up on the OAU campus in
Ife. We are six and I’m the 5th . I
grew up in a musical family. My
dad used to play the piano for
his church. My mum was in the
choir and my dad sings so well
too. As a matter of fact while
we were growing up we had a
family choir inspired by Sound
of Music. We were called Folayan
Family Singers. It was a vision
that started small when we
were kids and it’s growing now.
We had a vision to take Christ
through music to the world. I
am so happy I grew up in that
family… my kid brother over
there is the only boy and he is
also into music.
But because we grew up on the
campus and my mum was a
teacher we had to read and
pass. I was supposed to study
medicine, because I went to
pure science schools. I did
further maths, I did everything
but God has his own way and I
ended up reading something
else. I never thought of going to
do music full time but as an
undergraduate in Ife we had a
girls group. We used to rap and I
was just doing it. I was meant
to read medicine but I ended up
with administration. My going
into music wasn’t something I
planned for.
What happened to G Vibes?
We all went our different ways
to pursue our dreams. But I was
so consistent that it got to a
point that people started calling
me G Vibes.
What was your parents’
reaction ?
My dad didn’t like it, he said no!
My daughter would never
become a hoodlum. My mum
tried convincing him and
overtime they came to accept it.
I remember when I launched my
first album … then I saw my
mum on the red carpet and she
was so proud of me.
Was there a time you wanted
to pull out?
Oh! Yes I got so upset
sometimes that things were so
slow and I was a radio presenter
for eight years. So, I decided to
pursue my radio career and
dump music. I felt like pulling
out a lot of times… I went to
Cool FM and Freeze asked me a
question and I didn’t know it. So
I didn’t get the job and so I
focused on my music again and
I thank God… here I am today.
I’ve loved; I have died, I have
cried again and again. I’m happy
now God is using me …I have
traveled to over 15 states in
America . It’s about God and not
me because I didn’t contribute.
How do you handle your
male fans?
I think you have to dress the
way you want to be addressed.
It’s not only about your
dressing . It’s also about the
way you talk, walk and carry
your self . You know to every
action there is an equal reaction
to it. You will not see me talking
crap to a boy.
You know now people give me
my due respect even among my
friends because I don’t
compromise my stand. They
would say “ don’t crack jokes
here because Bouqui is here”.
There was a time I was at my
friend’s place in London and he
was like Bouqui get out and I
asked why? He said to me I
want to swear! I want to curse.
So you see even my friends
know that I would never take
nonsense. Standard is what you
create.

I've loved.I've died.I've cried-BOUQUI

Bouqui to a large extent knows
her onions and she would not
compromise when it comes to
standards and setting standards.
In fact with all modesty Bouqui
is multi-talented. She did hard
core sciences and Further
Mathematics. She wanted to
study Medicine. She didn’t. She
ended-up studying
administration and music.
Bouqui has made the most out
of her talents and she’s enjoying
the rewards that come with
that. Above all, she preaches
Christ…she enjoys that too. Is
she averse to Nigeria? Find out
in this interview. Excerpts:
Why do you shoot your
videos abroad?
Well, I traveled five months ago
for my USA tour, so while I was
on tour I shot one in the U.K and
I shot one in Chicago. It wasn’t a
deliberate effort to shoot
abroad but it was because I was
there at that time and that was
what happened to all my videos.
It’s not like I am one of those
that would travel to South
Africa and shoot videos.
I was just there at that point
and I needed to do it. You know
I couldn’t travel down here at
that time because I live here and
I want to shoot the video here. I
love Nigerian producers and I
think videos are increasing. I
think the concept is good. I look
forward to shooting my videos
here but I’m always never
around and if I have to shoot a
video while I’m there I won’t
come around and spend money.
For instance I’m leaving next
month and if I have to shoot a
video then I would have to
shoot it there.
Are you doing something
permanent abroad?
Yes. It’s because I’ m always on
tour. The genre of songs I sing
takes me to different places and
by God’s grace I believe when
you are satisfying a need with
your songs you are fulfilling
your destiny. You know you are
answering questions of lots of
people. As long as you do
that,God will take you to greater
heights. I have decided to use
my songs to impact peoples
lives and God takes me to all
these places where people listen
to the messages in them. You
don’t have to do drugs, you
don’t have to smoke or abuse
alcohol. You can be positive with
your talents and gifts. So God
takes me to where they need to
hear the message in my songs. I
know they need to hear it in
Nigeria too, but I’m like an
arrow. The arrow won’t say to
the archer shoot in this direction
or the other. The arrow must be
patient… if you are in the
quiver, you have to stay put, as
long as you are sharp. When you
are called upon you just face the
direction of the target.
How have you been able to
blend rap and gospel?
Well, I’m not trying to blend rap
and gospel. I am a Christian and I
love God with all my heart and
what I do is to give my talent to
God. So the rap I do is not
because I am a rapper but that is
what I know how to do. That is
what I’m set out to be; a rapper
and God is using me for His
work. That is why a lot of
people miss it . They set out and
say they want to be a gospel
artiste and they don’t know Him.
But you can’t sing about the God
you don’t know. I sing about
Him and I know Him. He also
knows me and loves me too.
When I sing about Him, I sing to
Him, I sing for Him, I represent
Him. I can’t just say I’m a gospel
artiste and start messing around
tomorrow. I live according to
the dictates of the bible. So it is
not about singing gospel music ,
it’s about singing about my
passion.
What is your acceptance in
the church like here?
It’s awesome now; though in
the past people were like ha!
rap? A female gospel artiste? But
now people are getting to see
it… like I told you when you are
meeting a need you would be
amazed at people that call you
up. People that I grew up
watching on television now call
me up and tell me “I think you
have something special”.
It is believed that an average
female gospel musician
should wear a hat, no
trousers and probably no
jewelry, so what is your
view on that?
That is a stereotype and a lot of
people are breaking away from
that .They are enlightened.
People now realize that you can
actually use your talents to
worship God. Whatever you are,
you can come to God. The
reason many people backslide is
that people step out from who
they are to become someone
else. But at some point you
begin to backslide because you
are not comfortable. But if you
are you, then you won’t have
problem. This is me… I am fun,
and positively crazy … then you
remain in Christ.
A school of thought says
worldliness is coming into
the church. Do you believe
that?
The school of thought can say
anything , but it is true that the
world is coming into the church
and the church is coming into
the world. But you see, I believe
this is a personal walk with God
and you have chosen to walk
with Him. Everything people say
is water on a dog’s back as long
as you are living right. As long
as you’re going to stand before
him and give account of your
life, I’ve come to realize that you
can’t please people but you have
to please God. If you please God,
He will make your enemies to be
at peace with you. I won’t say
because I want to please you
then I tie a scarf. If I feel like, I
would. I remember I was invited
to the Foursquare Church I
think; and they said I could
come like this. But my spirit said
I should go there the way they
are because I was trying to
reach out to the people. What is
the point if I get there and the
people can’t connect with me
and they start saying, look at
her she is even wearing jeans?
So I went to get myself a funky
skirt and tied a bandana and
they listened to what I had to
say because the most important
is not me, because I wasn’t
selling myself. You see a lot of
people come to ask me how I try
to cope about other female
artistes. But I tell them the
difference is clear, I am not
trying to sell me but Christ. So, if
you want me to be Lagbaja
tomorrow I would, because I
want to get the message across.
It’s not about me… it’s about
God who I believe in.
What about the issue of
women wearing trousers
and make up?
You see in the old testament,
there were no trousers but
garments .Maybe they had
colors to differentiate them .
When I studied the genealogy of
men , they said men were
wearing the garments of
women so they would be able
to have access into their tents
and have sex with them. That
was why they said women
should not wear male attire and
men should not wear female
attire .
What was growing up like in
an academic environment?
It was fantastic. My dad was a
professor of biochemistry. We
grew up on the OAU campus in
Ife. We are six and I’m the 5th . I
grew up in a musical family. My
dad used to play the piano for
his church. My mum was in the
choir and my dad sings so well
too. As a matter of fact while
we were growing up we had a
family choir inspired by Sound
of Music. We were called Folayan
Family Singers. It was a vision
that started small when we
were kids and it’s growing now.
We had a vision to take Christ
through music to the world. I
am so happy I grew up in that
family… my kid brother over
there is the only boy and he is
also into music.
But because we grew up on the
campus and my mum was a
teacher we had to read and
pass. I was supposed to study
medicine, because I went to
pure science schools. I did
further maths, I did everything
but God has his own way and I
ended up reading something
else. I never thought of going to
do music full time but as an
undergraduate in Ife we had a
girls group. We used to rap and I
was just doing it. I was meant
to read medicine but I ended up
with administration. My going
into music wasn’t something I
planned for.
What happened to G Vibes?
We all went our different ways
to pursue our dreams. But I was
so consistent that it got to a
point that people started calling
me G Vibes.
What was your parents’
reaction ?
My dad didn’t like it, he said no!
My daughter would never
become a hoodlum. My mum
tried convincing him and
overtime they came to accept it.
I remember when I launched my
first album … then I saw my
mum on the red carpet and she
was so proud of me.
Was there a time you wanted
to pull out?
Oh! Yes I got so upset
sometimes that things were so
slow and I was a radio presenter
for eight years. So, I decided to
pursue my radio career and
dump music. I felt like pulling
out a lot of times… I went to
Cool FM and Freeze asked me a
question and I didn’t know it. So
I didn’t get the job and so I
focused on my music again and
I thank God… here I am today.
I’ve loved; I have died, I have
cried again and again. I’m happy
